What an exciting 25 episodes! I'm usually not the type to follow series, especially not drama. The only shows I watch regulary are sitcoms like Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, King Of Queens, Scrubs, etc. Just stuff where I can sit down for half an hour and laugh at a few good jokes. And though I've watched all Fresh Prince episodes several times, the jokes still crack me up. I like shows where each episode kind of stands on its own. Where if you miss five episodes, you can still enjoy the next one cause there's not a big part of the story you missed.
Well, that was until LOST! Almost every new show that comes to Europe with a lot of hype from the States, I try to watch at least the first episode. Nip/Tuck, Numbe3s, CSI, Six Feet Under, even Desperate Housewives. From all these shows, I only found Six Feet Under to be interesting (dodging the stones from all the CSI fans out there). And even that took some time. And then I missed a few episodes and stopped completely. All the others I barely got through the first episode.
But not LOST! They "had me at hello". Since episode 1, I have made it a point not to make plans on Monday evenings cause of Lost. You may be wondering who makes plans on a Monday evening anyway?! In Switzerland, Monday is the cheap night at the movies. But that's beside the point. I went so far as to not even pick up the phone starting from 30 minutes before the show.
I just always wanted to find out what's going to happen next. And with Lost, there's also the aspect of finding out about the characters' past. So you are kind of following two stories in the same programme - where the guys came from, and where they're heading. Given the choice, obviously the story on the island would be first priority. But I'm for example still quite curious to find out about Kate's past.
Kate is among my favourite characters from the cast. And no, not only cause of her looks (I for example don't like Sharon). Hurley/Hugo is just too funny. Every time he starts saying something ("dude...") I just prepare myself to laugh. He was killing me in the whole "Exodus" thing at the end, just too funny. And Locke is just too interesting, not to like. All the talk of the island testing them, being on a mission and what not makes him my favourite character. Those three and possibly Sawyer, though at the beginning I didn't really like him. Jack is ok, nice to have, the leader and all that, but he's almost too perfect for my liking (at least on the island).
*Possible spoilers coming up, nothing major though.
But of course the main questions after season 1 are how things go with the guys on the raft, what the guys left on the island find under the hatch, who dies next, when Jack and Kate finally get busy (if at all), etc. And of course there's Michelle Rodriguez to look forward to in season 2!
Unfortunately, season 2 isn't being shown here till autumn 2006! I know, that sucks big-time!

Yes! Michelle! Michelle! ;-)
I can hear ya adrian. I missed the start of season one because of vacation. But after that, nobody could stop me from watching. I even ordered season one on dvd because I had to go to the military and wasn't able to watch it on mondays.
Lost rocks! Hurley is just too much...so funny
Ah, man. I love Lost. The funniest guy to me is Sawyer - that guy makes me just die laughing.
Ok kijana, you have just told me some stuff I didnt know as we are still on episode 13 season one here in the UK but no matter - it's all good:)
I love Lost too and MJY and I love having long postmorterm conversations after each episode. We both love Hurley - who wouldnt and think he is the true leader of the group (and not Jack). Case in point: the golf course, the manifest, asking Sayid to speak to Charlie when he had post traumatic stress after the thing with Ethan and other examples. Also, he is just so funny and we love the 'dude' thing too.
I think Sawyer is hot - Kui does not think so.
at some point Lost was too far fetched but from episode 15 they styled up, watched the first episode of season 2 & it was ok .but from the look of things we could be in for severaal seasons of this drama . now how can you brush nip/tuck aside like that ?
*Thump* - gotcha. (That was the first CSI fan stone) LOL
I know what you mean with Lost - and I am glad you really didnt give anything away like a certain person I know (Nick). Like you I cant stand Sharon (waste of space that)love Kate (though she seems a bit too perfect with everything she does, like Jack) and Hurley with his 'dude' biz makes me chuckle.
Like Mshairi said we are in episode (whatever she said) so we are bang in the middle of the first series. I always record it cos I want to see it without commercials interruption and also not miss anything because of phone calls or whatever.
Rant: That French woman: She has been on the island for 16yrs yet she still have shoes and intact clothes, guns with ammo and what the hell is that monster that chases people (oh, and I dont mean the bears).
Locke is waaaayy coool, and so is Sayid...yummmy!
Woiyee kwani in the whole wide world even in Switzerland am the only one who has never watched "lost" . I dunno why I never got hooked to the show but yes the re-runs of French Prince and Martin still cracks me up. Lakini what the big jazz about Lost..no hatin but I guess I need to befreind someone with a TIVO and watch the show from scratch to get the fascination but you should watch House. The arrogant British doctor makes it so cool. I guess when an American TV show starr a foreigner, it spices things up!...
I watched Lost from the very start and the pilot episode was superb. The next two or three, to me, felt long and drawnout with very little drama. Then somewhere around episode 5/6 the show just picked up and as Mshairi said - I am hooked.
I agree with you re Hurley. He is the real hero of the show. I am not convinced by Jack. What has Jack actually done? He can't hunt, he can't fight; he can't even treat asthma. Jack is useless
Sayid is another character who, aside from being the most attractive man on that island, seems to know a lot about almost everything.
The Korean woman is excellent and as for Sawyer...I have been waiting for his death since episode one!
I am in two minds when it comes to Locke; you are right - the man is interesting but I get the feel there is a dark side to him.
I could be here a while so I'll just thank you for a great post.
Adrian,
It seems like we have opposite tastes in shows. I tried watching Lost and well the concept was interesting but locations and backgrounds matter alot to me. I found the monotony of the whole Jungle/beach thing too much for me, even though they alternate with the past.
Six feet under..rite from the name i found it so grim and dull...ahhh!
Alternatively i prefer to watch Nip & Tuck, Desp. Housewives, Alias ,O.C,Judging Amy (hehe!) The Practice and such. I have new interests have been sparked by this show "carnivale" that i just started watching i think its been a month now.
Nip & Tuck absolutely does it for me. The 2 most interesting episodes was when Matt found out his real dad! and the following episode where Sean and Christian had a threesome (the sex bit didn't half intrigue me as much as the tension and fierce competition and need to out do each other. The things men will do!) I loved the part where they put their differences aside and realised that without each other, both the practice and raising of Matt wouldn't have been as sucessful.
Anybody like O.C ?
Hey out there! Lost is really great stuff! Usually I don't like series that much (excepting "Gilmore Girls" ;) I'm a girl, not my fault! :D), but Lost is better than many movies.
I liked Locke until he lied about the thing with Boone (doh, but I am really happy he's out of the story, I didn't like him at all). Hurley - of course - is hard stuff and unbelievable funny. :D Sawyer is funny and interesting, too. But KATE! Can't stand her! Don't you think, she is toooo perfect Mother Theresa - Style and always this hype about her... she stinks! :D
At the beginning I didn't like Charlie (stupid little hobbit *g*), but now he is a really nice character. :)
Greetz,
Claudia
P.S. @§anaa: Judging Amy is cool!

A birthday wish (so says Poi) many blessings.
Especially many blessings because you enjoy LOST like me. It is such a great show - and although I sometimes want to hide under the covers at some places, I still enjoy it. Great post - I will not stone you for CSI
I'm expecting season one in my christmas stocking coz I cant seem to remember when to watch the next one (i've only seen one) those thirty minutes sitcoms I love!

Is there a reason why these people were on the plane???
what im wondering about LOst is that, will there ever be an end to it, were already on episode 20 of season 2 and it dosn't seem to be drawing to a finnish, but, im not fussed considering how good the programme is! And NO, so far there was no reason for any of them to be on that speceifc flight of flight 815, they seem to be accidental bordings, or last minute bookings, i dont think any of the castaways attended to be on that specefic flight!
