My answers then are:
- No, I don't run
- Yes, it means "no problems / worries"
- No, I've never been on a Safari
After my last holidays back home (Dec/Jan), I can now at least say I've been on something like a safari - a mini-safari. Enter the Safari Walk! Nothing spectacular since:
- It's "just" in Nairobi
- The animals are behind glass / fences
- It's a WALK! :-)
My uncle who works at KWS, was surprised (ok, he was shocked!) to hear that I've never really seen the beautiful wildlife our lovely country has to offer. Having seen giraffes, zebras and elephants on the way to Loitokitok didn't really count.
So I was taken on the safari walk. Below are some of the pictures I took. I apologise for not explaining in detail (at all) which animals are on the pics and what their natural habitat, etc is - I don't know. And I'm lazy...
EDIT - Maybe I need to clarify that the last picture features albino zebras.

Oh, those pictures of your pets are so wonderful! What are their names?
Nice pics!Seems the staff forgot to dye the lions mane blonde, it's turning black! And the zebra's stripes are fading! These KWS folk need to get serious!
awww cute! I read that the animals in Kenya are starving coz of the drought :( and they said there probably won't be the migration of the wildebeest if the drought continues :(
A Swiss guy I meet said he would love to go to Kenya to see yes you guessed it - the animals -. Lovely homesick making pictures.
Awesome Adrian ! You were not alone for not experiencing the wildlife that makes Kenya all so beautiful. I'm yet to go for a real safari, that is on my A list on things to do that I never experienced when I visit Kenya.
By the way, is that Zebra color brown ama my macho is deceiving me?
hihihi Andy at the orphanage...
Lovely pics u gat and what are those two lions trying to do loool
@KG yeah nowadays they are feeding along Mombasa road
Pic 5 - that lion looks cuddly awwwww
Adrian, nice work -thanks for the pictures. You are not the only one, and neither am I not to have gone on safari. My first time to see most of these animals was... drumroll... London Zoo... tihihii and the rest on BBC - I hope and wish that they show most of the wildlife programs on BBC on Kenyan TV - it would explain so much
You leave all the natural beauty of your country to get a Mcdonalds variety in a foreign country. it was fun though :)
Great pictures! They always ask me if I can jump, aaiii
Huyo Zebra -- ameoga na jik?
Aww Adrian you really have a photographic gift. Just turn them into postcards and have those 'are-you-a-runner' Swiss buying them quick quick.
Last time I went to Nairobi national park, I was asked to pay "non-resident" rates, ati cause I dont have Kenyan ID - did you get the same hassle? I contested just for the sake of it ha ha
I feel sorry for those animals kept alone, especially in cages. Oh and did you go to the underground glass bit where there is only a pane of glass between you and a leopard?
Did I mention I love the pics!!
"Maybe I need to clarify that the last picture features albino giraffes" - Thanks for the clarification - they do look bleached!
Mmh..wonderful pictures
Going home must have increased your sense of humour quota ;) Loving the albino giraffes and very, very grateful you did not inlcude photographs of snakes and other reptiles.
You forgot one thing that comes to people's mind in Switzerland:
"Tell me about the compound!"
I already forgot your answer ...but it was lots of fun back then! :)
hey Adrian
I actually did the Safari Walk when I was in Nairobi last summer too and I think that it was well worth the time and money. Another great visit is the Giraffe Center.
I always says that I am very unlucky but in this case, I finally lucked out. We happen to be there at exactly the right time. They had the cheetah handlers: the guys who actually train them "in da house". Apparently, these 3 cheetahs have been around people since birth and are pretty tame and cool about people popping in and out of their home.
Anyway, they let stupid old me into the cage with the them.
My wife absolutely refused to get in and she also refused to let my one year old go in with me (scaredy cat).
The result was a set of photos that I will show off for the rest of my life.
Here is one of them:
wow, those 'albino giraffes' look strangely familiar, yet unlike any giraffe i ever saw...:)
Remind me again what tribe is found in Loitokitok? Maasai or Kalenjin? I could explain why as I kenyan I don’t know this but ill focus on more important matters such as the joy at finally finding another shags loving kenyan..kindred spirits we will be called from now on lol..seriously though nothing beats watching cows roll cud idly in their mouths or the sight of morning dew on everything first thing in the morning..ahhh..June cant come soon enough..
I LOVE wildlife. I saw some in Busch Gardens in Tampa,Florida but Kenya has the real deal.
Haller Park (formerly Bamburi Nature Trail) is also a great place to visit.
Nice pics.
